New Delhi, July 9, 2025 – Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city. Key arterial roads like BD Marg, GRG Road, and Lodhi Road were submerged, disrupting both vehicular movement and pedestrian access.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange alert” for the capital, indicating the likelihood of more showers, thunderstorms, and lightning. Commuters are advised to stay cautious, especially around low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Delhi Weather Forecast: Rain to Continue
According to the IMD, moderate rainfall is expected to persist through Wednesday night and into Thursday. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to accompany the showers. The maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 35°C, with a minimum of around 24°C expected.
Regions neighboring Delhi — including Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Nuh in Haryana, along with Meerut, Hapur, and Bulandshahar in western Uttar Pradesh — are also forecasted to receive similar weather patterns.
Air Quality Sees Significant Boost
The monsoon showers have brought a much-needed improvement to Delhi’s air quality. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 81 at 4 PM, falling in the “satisfactory” category for the 14th consecutive day.
The improved air quality is a silver lining for Delhiites, especially in July, when pollution levels are often moderate to poor. An AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory, while readings below 50 are classified as “good”.
IMD’s Advisory for Residents
With an orange alert in place, the IMD urges residents to stay updated via official weather bulletins. Authorities have recommended avoiding travel through flooded routes, and advised keeping emergency supplies ready in case of prolonged rainfall.
The coming 24 hours are critical, and while the rain offers respite from the summer heat, residents are encouraged to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
