GenZ Protesters Demand Rises for Kulman Ghising as Nepal’s Next Interim Leader

Admist the ongoing protests in Nepal, Kulman Ghising is now demanded to be the next interim leader since he is known for his clean image and administrative qualities who is known for solving the country’s power shortage problem. This happened after both Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki stepped aside following the resignation of KP Sharma Oli.

ABOUT KULAMAN GHISING

Kulman Ghising , is a respected technocrat and former managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA) born on November 25,1970 in Bethan Ramecchap . Ghising joined the NEA in 1994 as an electrical engineer and during his tenure , powercuts of upto 18 hours per day in many areas were largely eliminated , making electricity supply more reliable across major cities . He initially became MD of NEA in 2016 , served until 2020 then was reappointed in 2021. In March 2025, he was removed from office by the government before his scheduled term ended .

WHY GEN-ZS DEMAND GHISING ?

As interim PM , Ghising is proposed by sections of the Gen-z protest movement , as they are calling for a transitional administration composed of individuals with clean reputation and also demand for fresh elections . However Ghising has not held political office in the legislative or executive branch beyond NEA. Transitioning to national political leadership involves broader responsibilities . There are constitutional and procedural questions about who qualifies to be interim PM and how selection is to be done and what powers the interim government will have .Consensus is not yet fully formed.

Kulman Ghising’s rise from a technocrat to frontrunner for interim PM reflects Nepal’s demand for clean, result-oriented leadership. Once the man who brought light to Nepali homes , he is now seen as someone who could guide the nation through its darkest political hours. There is no final decision yet as meetings still going between Genz-representators, President Ram Chandra Paudel and the army chief .
