US President Donald Trump calls Russian drone invasion in Poland a could have been a mistake. He said “It could have been a mistake, but regardless, I’m not happy about anything having to do with that whole situation,” Trump told reporters Thursday at the White House as he left for a trip to New York. “But hopefully it’s going to come to an end.”This happened after Russian drones attacked near the border. He has also expressed his irritation with the incident that has alarmed Warsaw and other NATO allies.
Admist all this it also seen that Trump is being soft on Putin. Poland has asked more defense systems and counter drone technology after on Wednesday drones had crossed the territoty and it was shot down by the NATO forces. This drone occured a week after Trump hosted Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the White House and the two men spoke on Wednesday as Poland has asked for defense tools.
Warsaw has already received declarations from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, France and UK to send additional air defense equipment, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said. NATO is also preparing defensive military measures in response to the incursion across the alliance’s eastern flank, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Wednesday was the first time when a NATO member shot down military aircraft that entered into its airspace since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in Ukraine since February 2022. The government in Warsaw has been a strong supporter of Ukraine’s efforts in order to have their protection from the same.
As European and Nato countries are there to rally for Poland’s defence, the US has vowed that it will help defend Nato territory following the incident.
Washington’s ambassador to Nato Matthew Whitaker said The US will defend every inch of Nato’s territory.
