Shiv Sena and Republican Sena Forge Alliance Ahead of Maharashtra Civic Polls

In a significant political development, the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has entered into an alliance with Anandraj Ambedkar’s Republican Sena, ahead of the upcoming civic elections in Maharashtra. The alliance is being seen as a calculated move to consolidate Dalit and Marathi voter bases, potentially redrawing the state’s electoral map.

Announcing the alliance in Mumbai, leaders from both parties stressed the need for unity between Dalit and Marathi communities to promote inclusive governance and social justice. The collaboration is expected to play a pivotal role in key urban areas including Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nagpur, where both communities have considerable electoral influence.

“This alliance is not just political; it is ideological,” said a Shiv Sena spokesperson. “We are reviving the spirit of Bhim Shakti and Shiv Shakti, a vision once shared by Balasaheb Thackeray and Ramdas Athawale.”

The two parties intend to jointly contest seats in local body elections across the state. Political observers suggest this could alter the power dynamics in regions traditionally dominated by the Congress, NCP, and BJP.

Strategic Objectives of the Alliance

The alliance aims to:

  • Unite Dalit and Marathi voters who have often been split between various parties.

  • Promote social justice and upliftment of marginalised communities.

  • Enhance electoral success by pooling grassroots support.

  • Challenge traditional coalitions, including the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the BJP-led NDA.

Shiv Sena leaders emphasized that this partnership is also a message of empowerment for historically underserved communities. “Together, we will work for every segment of society, focusing on education, jobs, and urban development,” said a Republican Sena leader.

This development comes amid increasing political activity in Maharashtra as all major parties prepare for the 2025 civic polls and the 2026 state assembly elections. Political analysts believe this alliance could serve as a model for future collaborations between regional forces aiming to counter larger national parties.

The true impact of the alliance will unfold in the months ahead, but one thing is clear: Maharashtra’s political stage is entering a new phase of coalition-driven strategy. Whether this move results in long-term change or short-term gain remains to be seen, but it has already ignited a wave of speculation and rethinking among rival parties.
